Miguel Brechner was born in 1953 in Bolivia and moved to Uruguay in 1959. In 1972 travels to UK where he graduated at King’s College London in the school of Engineering and conducts studies Degree in Telecommunications depost at Imperial College, London.
For more than 25 years it is associated with companies in finding technological solutions TICs for Uruguay.
He was responsible for the introduction of Digital Equipment Corp., Compaq and Acer in Uruguay. It also participates in the introduction of Sonda in Uruguay, Newbridge Networks and other technology companies.
In 2005 he was appointed President of Latu, and from there proposed the implementation of the Ceibal Plan with the purpose to social inclusion, equity and impact on learning and technology deployment in the country.
In 2010 a special institution for the Ceibal Center was created and holding the presidency of the same since its inception.
He joined the operational team of the Cabinet of Innovation and then founded the ANII (National Agency for Research and Innovation) being on its board until 2013.
He has lectured about Ceibal Plan in different countries, participating in the World Education Forum 2013 in London, TEDx Buenos Aires, Tedx Montevideo, TEDx Pura Vida (Costa Rica), Forum Unesco, World Bank, IDB.
He is married with 3 children. His main hobbies are running marathons or triathlons in different parts of the world, as well as sports photography.
